2011 Residents' Association

Residents of Kings Cross, Potts Point, Elizabeth Bay, Rushcutters Bay and Woolloomooloo

Letter to the editor of the Wentworth Courier

Below is a letter to the editor of the Wentworth Courier published in the 22 July 2009 edition.

Dear editor,

Although it wasn’t reported by The Whisper, the 2011 Residents Association invited City of Sydney Councillors to explain why they voted to extend the Sugarmill Hotel’s outdoor seating in Springfield Mall.

Crs Di Tornai and Irene Doutney replied thoughtfully, but Cr Shayne Mallard demanded the 2011 Residents Association justify its e-mail to Councillors. This was surprising as our e-mail reflected what locals had told us, and we had worked well with Cr Mallard on other issues (e.g. on sewerage in Elizabeth Bay).

As an apolitical residents’ association, we are happy to work with all local organisations and politicians to benefit the community. The e-mail described by The Whisper was quite odd – the range of political views of our members reflects of course the wide range of political views in the local neighbourhood. I personally know only of the views of a few of our members – who variously support independents, Greens, Liberals, Labor, others, or no party.

We invite all local residents to attend our 2009 AGM and run for a Committee position. Our AGM will be held at 7:15pm on Monday 3 August at the Rex Centre, Macleay St, Potts Point. I personally wish whomever is elected well as I won’t be running for the Committee due to increased work commitments. I’m sure that the residents’ association will continue achieving many positive things for the community in 2009 and beyond under its new committee.
