Residents of Kings Cross, Potts Point, Elizabeth Bay, Rushcutters Bay and Woolloomooloo
A recent article titled ”A not-so-warm welcome for Queen Mary II tourists at Garden Island” was published in the Wentworth Courier 15 Feb 2012 and misrepresented the opinions of Lucas Crabtree, 2011RA President. Lucas has contacted the journalist and editor to point out that the misattributed quotes significantly misrepresent his opinion about tourists from the proposed increase of cruise ships at Garden Island.
In fact, tourists are very welcome in Potts Point. Our area is vibrant and diverse and tourists are an important part of that mix. We support our navy at the Garden Island location especially as they are one of the last vestiges of Sydney’s working harbour.
What Lucas expressed concern about was the possible environmental impact of super cruisers in the area and the impact that sightseers, from other parts of Sydney, will have on already clogged transport network and residents’ amenities. He encourages an impact study of the proposal and friendly discussion about this issue with all stakeholders.
